Arbeiten: Wald anpflanzen

Help Silimalombu’s Forestery Project

Dear visitor of Lake Toba,
Dear Reader of this Blog,

Hi I am Ratna Gultom from Silimalombu, a small village on the island of Samosir on Lake Toba.
When I was young, Silimalombu village was surrounded by a thriving green forest. In the past 30 years, people cut down the trees to make use of the wood. Unfortunately, the area is now overgrown with bushes. It is my dream to help nature recover, by planting and nursing trees around Silimalombu village. It involves clearing out the bushy area, planting the trees and consistantly taking care of them.
I can’t do this alone. It is simply too much work for one person and I don’t have the funds to employ someone. This is where you can help. For 50 Euros, you can plant a tree in your name and I guarentee, it will be looked after for 5 years, and replaced if something should happen during this period. Every month the bushes will be cut to allow the tree to grow freely. After 5 years your tree will have developed into adulthood without any problems.
With your support, I can plant more trees to rebuild the forest.
I will keep you up to date with your trees progress every 6 months. You are welcome to visit your tree in Silimalombu!

Bushes covering the slopes of Silimalombu. We have almost no forest today.

Before planting a tree, we must clean the area from bushes, roots and weeds.

Adopt a tree if you are in Sumatra!
I invite you to visit Silimalombu and plant your own tree. Upon arrival by taxi you will be welcomed by me and introduced to Batak everyday life. Next, you will visit the forest and plant your own tree and also put a plate with your name next to the tree. To freshen up you can swim in beautiful Lake Toba. For lunch you will eat fresh fish from Lake Toba and fresh vegetables grown locally. In the afternoon you have the choice of returning to Tuktuk by bicycle or by taxi. Or if you you would like to extend your experience, you can stay the night.
